2018 will be remembered for many things in the movie world. Superhero movies aspired to more, franchises were reborn, horror reinvented the way suspense could be achieved and representation made way for one of the year's biggest hits. The crew got together and formed a consensus for the 10 best movies of 2018.

Tied - 10. Bumblebee

One of the biggest surprises of 2018 was having a Transformers movie that critics liked. With a new director at the helm, Travis Knight, and an Oscar-nominated actress in tow, Hailee Steinfeld, Bumblebee did away with the monstrous CGI explosion of the recent entries to the franchise and focused the story on two beings becoming best friends. The movie is not perfect but it is charming, heart-warming and it does enough to rid itself of the joke that the franchise had become.

Tied - 10. Creed II

2015's Creed was a true achievement in film making, by taking a storied franchise and being able to pass off the baton to the next generation.

9. Incredibles 2

14 years is a long time to wait for anything, let alone a sequel. Pixar decided to give in to the demand of their fans and deliver an excellent entry into their already-impressive catalog. Incredibles 2 brings back the super hero family with new dynamics and new threats. The movie is filled with many memorable moments but none are quite as satisfying as the fight between Jack-Jack and the raccoon.

8. The Favourite

The monarchy of England is usually shown, in film, as an uptight, stuffy society in which every sentence is spoken in the Queen’s English, as it flows as a flowery poem. What makes The Favourite stand out is that it allows comedy to shine and the women in this film bring their A-game. Everyone brings their best to their respective roles, with Olivia Colman’s Queen Anne being the stand out. Colman’s character is played, for the most part, as a comedic farce, respected only for the crown that sits on her head, and it is a pure joy. Each moment Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz are on screen together is gripping and funny. Incredibly gifted with comedic timing, they are both enjoying every moment of this incredible script.

7. Crazy Rich Asians

One of the biggest surprises of 2018 was the smash-hit Crazy Rich Asians. It was the first time since 1993 that an all-Asian cast starred in a movie. Not only was it a hit for everyone, it also helped revive the "rom-com," which has been dormant for the past few years. An over $200 million worldwide earnings at the box office has already put plans for a sequel into motion.

6. Black Panther

Coming into 2018, most people would have predicted Avengers: Infinity War as the top earning movie at the box office. Marvel still had the top earning movie of the year but to the surprise of almost everyone, Black Panther was a runaway success. Director Ryan Coogler brought a story that made an impact with all audiences, allowing for the movie to be a serious contender during awards season.
